Will there be any cross-over with the main game?

We're looking into allowing you to copy your main game progress into Community Worlds, but this would be one-way only. We know how important the hard-earned achievements of OSRS are and we want to continue to honour those grinds and hours of playtime.

What does this mean for limited-time game modes like Leagues and Deadman?

In short, nothing. While you’ll be able to essentially create a version of a League or Deadman, the OSRS team is still planning to give you new and exciting limited-time game modes that will give you a brand-new experience and the ability to be rewarded in the main game.

Will these worlds be subject to the same rules of RuneScape present in the main game?

Any rules that are applicable within OSRS will also persist over to Community Worlds. While we are aware there may need to be slight adjustments or additional rules added to Community Worlds, anything you can’t do in the main game won’t be allowed on these worlds.

Will there be tools available for a world owner to moderate their world?

Yes. While we can’t go into the specifics just yet, we know how important it is for world owners to be able to protect and maintain their worlds so we will be offering various options for moderation.

How much will it cost to host a Community World?

While we’re still working out the full cost breakdown, different world sizes will have varying price points. There will be a charge for players looking to rent a world from Jagex, but we intend to keep these costs in line with industry standards for server rentals.

Can I use one account on multiple worlds, or do I need one for each?

It's going to work similarly to logging into the main game using your Jagex Account. You'll be able to log into different community worlds on any character attached to your Jagex Account.

Will players be able to create their own quests, bosses, items, etc?

While we'll be keeping details about the future of Project Zanaris under wraps for now, our goal is to fully embrace the sandbox experience that OSRS is celebrated for.

Our goal is to eventually enable you to develop your own creations and share those with the wider community. While this is some way off, we will be exploring all avenues of customisation.

When is Project Zanaris Launching?

Currently, we're focused on testing and gathering feedback from players which we aim to expand more broadly this year. We’ll be sure to keep you updated once we’re ready to announce launch plans.

When is Project Zanaris Launching?

Currently, we're focused on testing and gathering feedback from players which we aim to expand more broadly this year. We’ll be sure to keep you updated once we’re ready to announce launch plans.

Is the team worried this update will divide players?

We've spent a considerable amount of time thinking about this and we're taking several measures to make sure that doesn't happen.

First and foremost, Community Worlds will be operating a content delay to the main game. This means that the latest content won’t be immediately available on the community worlds. If you want to experience the freshest updates, you'll need to play on the main game. This approach also prevents players from easily practicing the newest content right away.

Additionally, we're investigating concurrent gameplay, allowing you to be on a community world simultaneously with the main game. This means you could manage AFK grinds in the main game while also experiencing one of the fantastic player-made servers within a community world.

Why wasn't this polled?

As per the Polling Charter, certain features in the main game are not subject to polling. For instance, Leagues and Deadman modes are not polled because they don’t directly affect the main game. Project Zanaris will follow this same approach, which is why it will not be polled.

However, just because it isn't being polled doesn't mean we won't apply the same principles of community consultation that we use for normal content that does receive a poll. We recognise how important it is to involve everyone in the community in creating the best experience possible.

How will the worlds be hosted?

Jagex will manage the hosting for players, aiming to make the process as straightforward as possible. We've observed how hosting works in other games, which can often become complex. With this approach, players will simply use a website to design the world they want. However, this also means there won't be an option to self-host a world.

Will there be new regions to host worlds in?

We will be supporting the regions where we currently have game worlds, which include Europe, America, and Australia. However, we are actively exploring the possibility of adding more regions.

One of the great aspects of this project is that it could bring benefits beyond Project Zanaris. We're looking into how we can expand server coverage so that players can have worlds as close as possible to their location. We hope to have more information on this in the near future.

This is a prime example of how work on Project Zanaris can benefit not only the project itself but also the main game. While there were previous concerns about this being a separate team drawing resources away from other initiatives, the Zanaris team is focused on creating improvements that will positively impact both the main game and Project Zanaris.

Will great community ideas be considered for the main game?

We know our players have great ideas, and we've already incorporated some into the main game, like rooftop agility. So, in short, yes, we will consider community ideas, but there will be a structured process in place.

This process will be thorough, including quality assurance and, importantly, polling. We won’t simply take a concept from Community Worlds and implement it into the main game, even if it seems promising, without going through our established polling process.

One of the biggest pillars of Old School is the polling charter, so if we were going to implement an idea, it would have to be polled. We would need to do a lot of exploratory work with whoever created it as we wouldn't want to just add it into the game without the permission of the creator or the players.
